Stevenage have completed the signing of goalkeeper Daniel Barden. The 25-year-old joins as a free agent following his departure from Norwich City at the end of last season.
Barden made two Championship appearances for Norwich during the 2020-21 campaign. He spent the 2025-26 season on loan at National League South side Dagenham and Redbridge. The length of his contract with Stevenage has not been disclosed.
Daniel Barden is a goalkeeper who began his professional career at Norwich City. His time at Carrow Road included those two senior appearances in the Championship. In October 2021, Barden was diagnosed with testicular cancer and stepped away from football. He returned to action the following season, making a full recovery. His loan spell at Dagenham and Redbridge last term provided him with regular playing time to rebuild his match sharpness.
Barden arrives as Stevenage's fifth new addition of the summer transfer window. He will provide competition in the goalkeeping department as the club prepares for its second consecutive season in League One. The current squad list on our squad page shows the existing options between the posts. Manager Steve Evans has been active in reshaping his group, aiming to build on last season's mid-table finish. The team's upcoming schedule, visible on our fixtures page, includes several challenging early-season matches where squad depth will be tested.
Securing Barden on a free transfer represents a low-risk addition with potential upside. His arrival concludes a specific search for goalkeeping reinforcement. He is the fifth signing of the summer, indicating a targeted approach to recruitment rather than a major overhaul. The club's activity suggests a focus on adding depth and specific profiles to complement the existing core. Fans can track the team's progress and position in the table on our standings page throughout the campaign.
With pre-season preparations ongoing, Barden will now integrate with his new teammates. His personal journey and professional experience add a different dimension to the dressing room. The immediate focus will be on securing a place in the matchday squad for the opening league fixtures next month.
