A celebrity cricket match has raised over £20,000 for a charity supporting homeless people living in Stevenage and North Hertfordshire. The match, spearheaded by St John Fishers Cricket Club in St Albans, included professional footballer David James, former England international cricketer Monty Panesar, and football managers Alex Revell and Mick Harford. The match was played in memory of Lt Col John Hoskins MBE RA, who died last year. The charity, Feed Up Warm Up, provides drop-in centres and food banks in Stevenage and Hitchin for people who are homeless. Tom Davison, 14 and from Stevenage, volunteered at Feed Up Warm Up's Hitchin food bank for three months while completing his bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. His mum, Louise, said: "Tom gained such a lot from the experience, and I am so grateful to the charity for accommodating him. Feed Up Warm Up is a genuinely wonderful charity that provides so much more than hot meals and food banks. Over the years, it has built a community where people can feel safe, supported and seen. The charity also arranges many services guests may need, including hairdressing, chiropody and counselling, as well as organising special events to bring a little joy. Feed Up Warm Up's drop-in centres run from 5pm to 7pm at the north stand of the Lamex Stadium in Stevenage, and from 6pm to 8pm at the Church of Our Lady Immaculate and St Andrew in Hitchin's Nightingale Road. The charity has raised £20,507 so far, with a target of £22,500. The match was played at a cricket ground in Luton, and the funds will go towards supporting the charity's work. The charity provides volunteering opportunities to young people, such as apprentices at Stevenage Borough Football Club and those completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award. The recent form of Stevenage FC is WDWDL, with 49 goals scored and 46 conceded, a +3 goal difference. The team is currently 28 points behind leaders Lincoln in the league standing, which is 6th in League One with 75 points from 46 games. The next fixture for Stevenage FC is against Sheffield Wednesday at home on 26th September.
