Millwall manager Alex Neil praised Jenson Metcalfe's display against Stevenage, despite the Lions' 1-0 loss in a pre-season friendly. Metcalfe, 21, joined Millwall from Bradford City the day after the transfer window opened and has featured in all four of the Lions' pre-season friendlies so far. He started alongside Casper De Norre in midfield against Stevenage on Saturday, as the Lions lost 1-0 after Jake Cooper conceded an own goal shortly after half-time.
Asked about Metcalfe's display after the game, Neil said: “I think he did most things well. His distribution was good. He takes the ball; he can turn the ball over. “Just a couple of little bits in terms of just overloads down the side where Zak can get done inside; the lad comes and shoots. That shouldn’t happen. We’ve got a way that we set up for that type of thing, and we need to go over that a little bit more with him. “It’s a bit of a learning process for him at the moment in terms of how we play and what we look to use him to do.”
Millwall currently sit 6th in League One, with 75 points from 46 games, and are 28 points behind leaders Lincoln. They have scored 49 goals and conceded 46 so far this season. Their next fixture is against Luton on February 20, 2027.
